The Schnoor is Bremen's oldest, smallest and somewhat enchanted quarter. In its narrow streets, between tiny, crooked houses, you can stroll comfortably. Behind the facades are stories from everyday life in Bremen and from past centuries. With small stores full of curiosities and with quaint cafés and restaurants, the Schnoor quarter invites you to linger. Take a journey into the past and be surprised by the narrowest alley of Bremen, curious figures as well as the smallest house in the city and much more.

Stadtfuehrung in Bremen Schnoorviertel

During the walk through the Schnoor quarter you will get to know the old Bremen. First testimonies prove the construction of a Franciscan monastery at this place in the 13th century. Later, rope makers and fishermen made their living here for many generations.

The Schnoor is full of stories

In the Schnoor quarter you will discover the so called "Katzengang", Bremen's narrowest alley with a width of only about 50 cm. You will learn who once lived and worked here and why the Schnoor inhabitants had to pay a toilet fee as early as the Middle Ages. Also say hello to Heini Holtenbeen (a monument), a popular, somewhat cranky Bremen original whose sayings are still told today.

Today, the Schnoor quarter is a popular tourist attraction. You will discover oddities, and handmade items, jewelry, art and souvenirs in tiny stores with low ceilings. In the Christmas House you will find not only festive decorations, but also a relic of the medieval city wall.
