There are still many reminders of the shipbuilding tradition in Vegesack today. The old warehouse, which is now home to various companies, was built around 1814 by the shipyard founder Johann Lange. The Museum Harbour is home to interesting ships such as the experimental cruiser BREMEN. At the Utkiek, a bronze cast of a whale jawbone is a reminder of the time of the Greenland voyagers who set off from Vegesack to go whaling. The city garden with its partly exotic trees goes back to the doctor and botanist Wilhelm Albrecht Roth and is now a popular recreational area. In Weserstrasse, captain's houses and magnificent merchants' villas bear witness to a time when shipping flourished in Vegesack. During the virtual tour, you will also learn, among other things, what provisions the sailors took with them on their long voyages and why the founding of the German Maritime Search and Rescue Association had its origins in Vegesack. Let us surprise you!
During the virtual city tour, you will see photos and video sequences of the area around the old warehouse, the Vegesack Museum Harbour, the Utkiek, part of Weserstrasse and part of the city garden. Listen to exciting stories about the city and amusing anecdotes.
