From Bremen we drive to Bremerhaven, Bremen's sister city at the mouth of the Weser River, about 60 km away. On the way there you will get information about some of the sights and districts we pass during the drive (mostly from the motorway) and about the history of Bremerhaven.
Once we arrive in Bremerhaven, we will first take a short sightseeing tour of the city (approx. 1.5 hours). During this tour in the bus we will drive through the "Fischereihafen" (fishing port), where among other things many companies and institutes, some of which are known beyond the region, are located. At the "Schaufenster Fischereihafen" we briefly get out and explore "Fiedlers Fischmarkt anno 1906" and enjoy the view of the harbor basin. If you like, you can also treat yourself to a fish roll on the spot. After all, if you like fish, you'll love Bremerhaven. The nickname "Fischtown" for the city at the mouth of the Weser is not by chance. Where once the center of German deep-sea fishing was located, today the museum ship GERA, the last existing German side trawler, lovingly staged fish restaurants and stores invite visitors to linger. There are also opportunities for leisure activities, such as in the Phänomenta - an interactive experimental exhibition - and in the 360-degree staging around the fish in the event center "Fischbahnhof".
Then we continue with the sightseeing tour. During this you will discover a part of the city of Bremerhaven, including the historic Wilhelminian style houses, and in the harbor area you can marvel at huge car ships (so-called car carriers) and, depending on the capacity of the harbor, also cruise ships. From a distance you can have a look at the container terminal "Wilhelm Kaisen" with the container gantry cranes (special cranes) which are about 45 meters high.
After the sightseeing tour we get off at the "Havenwelten". There you will have a lunch break at your own disposal (time to be arranged) and you can either stop at a restaurant or, depending on the season, get something "to go" (for example a fish roll). Alternatively, we can organize a lunch for the group in advance (self-payment at the restaurant).
Afterwards we will explore the Havenwelten on a guided walking tour (approx. 1.5 hours). You will hear interesting facts as well as some anecdotes. Of course, a bit of sailor's yarn to make you smile should not be missing in between...
The walking tour ends in the pedestrian zone "Bürgermeister-Smidt-Straße". Afterwards, you will have free time at your own disposal (time to be arranged). For example, you can visit the "Klimahaus" (climate house), the German Emigration House, the Historical Museum Bremerhaven, the German Maritime Museum (depending on the season also the associated museum ships in the Old Port), the Art Gallery Bremerhaven or the zoo, go strolling or "kaffeesieren" (= drink coffee) or enjoy the view on the observation deck of the Atlantic Sail City Hotel. Alternatively, we can organize a joint afternoon program in advance, such as a visit to a café with coffee and cake or a visit to one of the exhibition houses with or without a guided tour (self-payment on site).
Please note: As work is carried out in the port area seven days a week, there may be a high volume of trucks and traffic congestion in some areas.
For the tour to Bremerhaven it is necessary that you bring your own bus or rent one in Bremen. I will be happy to help you with the organization.
